We are only accepting submissions on Young FilmMaker 2021 website. Firstly, you will need to create an account and submit the video link in the youtube. Please refer to the following page for more information on how to create a project and submit to festivals: ht. We will not consider any entry that is not officially submitted through the Young FilmMaker 2021 online website.

The theme, “Return Stronger” can be freely interpreted. The creative content of the video and how it relates to the theme has no limit but your imagination, as long as it’s your original work. Every creative will have their own point of view, and you should interpret the theme however you want.

Young FilmMaker 2021 is open for all genres including narrative, fiction, non-fiction, documentary, animation and experimental film 

Should you need any inspiration, your video could tell the story of the following ideas:

The new norm has achieved what was thought to be impossible before. It change our culture, relationship, working environment and many other aspect of everyday life.

We evolved from face to face meet up to video calls, brick and mortar shop to online store and many more.

We are also communicating with people to make us feel connected no matter where we are or how we do it. It helps us to continue establish the relationship, keep on loving each other and working together as a team.

These are only examples, and again we count on your creativity

To participate in Young FilmMaker 2021, you must submit an original short film up to thirty (30) minutes in duration. This competition is open to all Malaysian filmmakers ages 18 to 35 years old.

All Young FilmMaker 2021 short film entries must be no longer than thirty (30) minutes in length.

Entries Young FilmMaker 2021 close at 12AM on March 31st , 2022.

You will see your entry in your account on the Young FilmMaker 2021 website.

Yes, you can edit it until the deadline.

Yes. You must follow the contest’s theme “Return Stronger”

Yes. We accept short films in any language. You must include Malay or English subtitles into your films. Please ensure that all subtitles are hardcoded to your video file as opposed to including discreet subtitles that need to be turned on in order to display on the screen, such as utilizing the “CC” option on your YouTube upload.

No. If your entry contains content that is considered inappropriate and violates the terms and conditions of Young FilmMaker 2021, we may refuse to accept your entry.

Entries received after the dateline will not be eligible for Young FilmMaker 2021.

Yes. As long as the film has not been submitted before, and meets all other guidelines for the competition, you can submit as many entries as you like.

Cash prizes will be paid either by cheque or direct bank transfer to the winner account. Any fees, charges, exchange losses or taxes payable as a result of receiving a cash prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.

For preliminary round, we are required to check the contestant age. For minor talents involved in the short film shooting, the consent form from a guardian/parent is required to be submitted to the organizer.

Yes. You will need to submit parents/guardian consent form, if you have talents that ages below 18 in the video submission.

Winners will be announced and contacted within 1st March 2022 until 15th March 2022 through their personal email

There are two (2) categories you can enter your main film into – Student or Open (Public).

YES. Submitted films may be screened outside of the competition on Young FilmMaker platforms, including The Organizer’s platform via television or app and/or on The Organizer’s social media and digital platforms. This will give your film more visibility outside the competition, whether it is selected as a finalist or not.

The platform will be open to the public, for the first round of voting, from 1st October 2021 until 31st March 2022. Audiences will be encouraged to watch and vote on their favorite films on the Young FilmMaker website. Each person is allowed to vote once per video only. For the Final Judges Final Round from 1st April – 30th April 2022  , a panel of judges comprised of the industry experts will watch and rate the finalists’ films in order to select the winners

There are four (4) set of judging criteria for the scoring process – Storytelling (40 pts), Originality & Creativity (30 pts), Cinematography & Technicality (20 pts) and People Choice (10 pts).

Yes. You can submit the existing short film as long as your short film meets the requirements of Young FilmMaker 2021 and has not been entered into any other competition before.

Yes. From a legal standpoint, you must license or obtain permission from the appropriate legal rights holder for any and all trademarked and/ or copyrighted materials included in your short films before you can exhibit it publicly in our Young FilmMaker platform.

Yes, feel free to shoot your video using any type of camera/device you wish. 

Yes. Collaborate with as many people as you want as long as it follows Young FilmMaker 2021 T&C.

Please note that if you win, you will need to designate one person from the team  as a team leader to represent the group. This one person will be credited on all materials and releases from the Young FilmMaker 2021.

Yes. If the Film has been shortlisted as finalist, you will need to submit the original RAW file in MP4/Mov to the Organizer. The format required for the RAW file is high-definition format. The aspect ratio should be 16:9 and a minimum resolution of Standard HD (1280 X 720 px) with the stereo audio format.
